Monday - Tuesday, December 27-28, 1999: Frankfurt and Washington Okay, drinking for eight hours straight was probably a mistake. We hit Frankfurt at 6 a.m. ready... to completely pass out, and still a bit tipsy. Hangovers wouldn't kick in until later in the day. We made a beeline not to Frankfurt proper but to the airport Marriott, where we snagged a room for DM208 (about $100) and promptly fell asleep, with an 11 a.m. wakeup call.
We learned our lesson this time at Dulles, and stayed near the front of the bus. We were second in line at customs, at out by 3:45, without one hitch. We forced ourselves to stay awake until about 10 p.m. Caught "Man on the Moon" that night and ordered in sushi. The next day, well, it was packing all over again for Jamaica. Caught "The Talented Mr. Ripley" at the movies. We don't get out to movies much, so it's a treat. We also got an e-mail from Kyndell and Jeff in Jamaica, telling us that all was okay. As we booked our rooms in Jamaica nine months prior, and our confirmation number was "Danny," we lived in fear that Danny would quit and our pre-paid rooms would disappear. Packing was much easier as, except for Washington (where we were leaving from National, just down the hill), it was all warm weather. Emphasis on shorts and bathing suits all the way.
It was nice to be home for a couple of days, a good break and an unfortunate reminder of reality. But we stayed in the "Phase II" mindset. Neither of us had had three weeks off since our honeymoon back in April 1997, so we were readjusting to having... nothing... to do. We also hit the realization that that wasn't such a bad place to be.
