summer morning.
It was a light news
day on the 20th. Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and Israeli Prime
Minister Ehud Barak entered their 10th day of negotiations at Camp
David while trying to reach a peace accord. Russian President Vladimir
Putin toured North Korea and urged the United States to scrap its
anti-missile shield. Turmoil in Fiji threatened to divide the country
into rival factions in the wake of a coup. The House of Representatives
voted to lift some of the trade restrictions against Cuba in the first
tentative steps towards restoring relations with the island.
Eli is a hebrew
name meaning "Offering" or "High." The name comes from the biblical
high priest Eli, who judged Israel for 40 years and instructed the
young Samuel. It originally was a short form of Elijah, but has stood
alone as a name for hundreds of years.
Welcome, Eli!
